Wrinkles - What To Do About Them

by Amanda Beaty

The top layer of skin ages and decreases in thickness. With this thinning of the top layer (called the epidermal layer) the skins cells in the layer are not as adhesive which helps the skin retain less moisture. These cells do not reproduce as easily when we get older which causes the skin not to heal as easily. Wrinkles result as the epidermal layer ages but this is not the only reason. The dermal layer of the skin also needs to be discussed.

The dermal layer decreases in thickness also. It has less collagen because of less being produced and the skin becomes less elastic. Lines and other conditions happen when this occurs in the dermal layer. The skin also dries because of less sebum being prefabricated in the sebaceous glands. We also have fewer sweat glands as we age which can cause dryness too.

The aging of the dermis can cause various problems. The dermis contains sweat glands and sebaceous glands. When the sweat glands get fewer with age the skin dries out. Also the sebaceous glands do not produce as much sebum when they age so that also contributes to the skin drying out.

There are plenty of over the counter solutions for wrinkles today. You can buy a cream to help erase them, or one to make the skin more firm, and there is actually creams that say they are for a grappling lift. Moisturizers are quite effective these days too with all the maximum strength ones out there. Consider applying one of the creams in place of more drastic solutions as performed by medical professionals.

Smoking should be avoided for the intoxicant of your health and skin. The blood vessels constrict during smoking disabling the skin from getting correct oxygen. Carbon monoxide can increase due to smoking which makes the skin react badly. This can increase the amount of free radicals, which can cause the skin to age faster.

Free radicals are another cause of the skin aging. Free radicals love carbon monoxide, which increases when you smoke. Also the nicotine can make the blood vessels constrict creating a problem for the skin to get oxygen. So think twice or three times before smoking for the good of you skin and your health.

Getting suntans are fun but can be very hard on the skin. It is better to protect your skin with sunscreen of SPF of 30 or higher. When on the beach you need to place sunscreen on every 30 minutes for full protection. There are other cosmetics on the market that also can be purchased and used with SPF protection. So continually throughout the day protect yourself from the negative effects of the sun. You need to have good nutrition too to combat wrinkles. Most importantly you must drink enough water on a regular basis. The recommended amount of water is six to eight 8 ounce containers of water a day. This will help the skin get the necessary moisture for the skin not to dry out so much as you age. Wishing you a life without crinkles and wrinkles.
