Stop Drinking Advice… Knowing When To Stop

You should also make sure that you understand the connection between your drinking and your regular habits. If you normally drink when you are upset or stressed, pay attention to the things that make you upset and try to either eliminate them, or deal with them in a different way. For instance, if you are experiencing stress at work, and usually drink after work, try something else that relieves stress, such as taking a achievement after dinner or listening to your favorite music. You can also take advantage of meditation to clear your head and calm yourself down. This may feel strange to you at first but after a while, you will become accustomed to using alternative methods to make yourself feel better. It is also best to substitute drinking with positive activities as soon as possible. Even if you feel that you are just a social drinker and only drink when you are out with friends, you should use things like physical activity, your favorite television show, or spending time with loved ones to replace your tendency to drink.

The addiction is always stronger than the desire to quit. But, it can be done. I did it. I have been sober for thirteen years. I got tired of blackouts and hangovers and acting like someone I’m not when I’m without alcohol. I knew I wanted to stop, but I had no clue how. I went to a twelve step meeting in my church, and kept going every night to different meetings, for four and a half years. If you let the seriously sober men and women help you, you can beat this addiction. You don’t have to be afraid to go to meetings, some of the nicest people I have ever met came from inside those rooms. There is a silent camaraderie among fellow drunks, and we are more alike than different. There is a humbleness and an honesty that goes with trying to quit an addiction, and we all shared it. It’s the only place you can get your own sponsor who will work the steps with you, and share their experiences, hopes and dreams. They are usually men and women who have been in the program for a while, and can help you with the skills they learned, and turn around and teach you.

Set a positive tone. When your teen is ready to drive, let him know that you think he will be a great driver. At the same time, grant privileges slowly so you can add more as your son or daughter demonstrates they are ready for them instead of having to take privileges away when your trust is violated. Teenagers love to test their parents and in fact it is their job to do so. It is the parents’ job to set clear rules and to hold teenagers responsible when they are violated. Consider rewarding your teen if he or she is accident-free for a certain period of time and remove restrictions when you find they are no longer necessary.Sign a Contract. The best way to lay out the rules you expect your new driver to follow is to place them in a contract you both will sign. The contract should cover such things as the number of friends who can be in the car with the new driver (most likely one), what time the driver must be home on school nights and weekends, responsibilities for gas, insurance and car maintenance and the mandatory use of seat belts for all passengers.

Different types of rehabilitation centers cater to different types of needs. You will have to decide what kind of rehab program and center you want to work with in order to aid alcohol recovery. Most alcohol rehab centers offer both inpatient and outpatient facilities, and your doctor should be healthy to advise you on the best kind of treatment for you. Outpatient alcohol rehab treatment is similar to any other kind of outpatient treatment, where the patient has to go and consult the doctor and get medications while living outside medical premises. In case you plan to go in for outpatient alcohol recovery and treatment, then you will be required to report to your rehab center for help, support, guidance and medication while carrying on with your normal life. On the other hand, if your doctor advises inpatient treatment, then you will have to get yourself admitted to the alcohol rehab center for a certain period of time for alcohol recovery and treatment. You will be monitored throughout the day and night and any withdrawal symptoms that you have will be treated then and there.

Does Drinking Alcohol Harm An Unborn Baby? Here’s the thing; if you are pregnant and drinking, your baby is drinking as well. As soon as you take a drink of any alcoholic beverage, your unborn child is taking the same drink. Any alcohol you drink goes directly through your bloodstream into the placenta. Would you fill a bottle with alcohol and give it to a baby? Hopefully the answer is, “no” and if this is the case, you should also give up alcohol if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. Still not convinced? When you drink alcohol while you are pregnant the alcohol interferes with the baby’s ability to get enough oxygen and the nourishment needed for normal cell development in the brain and other body organs. A developing fetus has a very low tolerance for alcohol. Serious problems may occur when pregnant mothers consume alcohol. One of the problems a baby may be born with if the mother has been drinking during the pregnancy is Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. No one knows how much alcohol is too much for FAS to develop. Babies born with FAS suffer from mental and physical defects. These problems do not go away.

Your general health and calibre of life will be improved if you stop drinking. In addition, those who live with you and care about you will see an improved calibre of life if you stop drinking alcohol. Alcohol abuse or dependence has a number of serious health problems that can be reduced by discontinuing your bad habits. It also decreases your risk of getting into an alcohol related happening that can injure yourself or others around you. Relationships with parents, children and spouses will also be improved by cutting back on your drinking habits. Children and teens in your household will have great benefits by seeing your good role model and behavior example.

Studies show that some individuals are more likely to experience alcoholism at some point in their lives than others. For example, genetics can play a role in whether or not a mortal is likely to be drawn to alcohol. Often the children of alcoholics will have a higher risk of one day becoming an alcoholic themselves. Psychological problems also increase the risk for alcoholism. Individuals suffering from depression, attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder and many other psychological disorders often turn to alcohol to make them feel better or assist their suffering. This often turns into a dependency. There are many health problems that are caused by alcoholism. Alcoholism depresses the central nervous system. Over time, alcoholism can cause fatigue, paralysis of the muscles surrounding the eyes and short-term memory loss. Other, more life-threatening health problems caused by alcoholism include cirrhosis of the liver, high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke, gastrointestinal problems, neurological disorders, sexual dysfunction and bone loss. Alcoholism also increases the risk of certain cancers, such as cancer of the esophagus, larynx, liver and colon. If left untreated, alcoholism can lead to death.
