Whether you already know that you have a high level of cholesterol or your doctor has told you that you do, you need to learn about the factors that can lower and raise your cholesterol levels so you can begin intake more balanced meals.

One of the first things you need to do is to find out exactly what your cholesterol level is by having your doctor perform a blood chemistry analysis test. Sometimes the doctor will have the work close by and you can obtain your results on the same visit. But often times, you will need to reschedule another consultation with your doctor as he will have to move for the work to deliver the results.

Maintaining a high level of cholesterol for a long period of time can lead to some major health problems. One of these problems is that it can start to shut down some vital organs which will affect your overall health. Another problem is that it can lead to your death. This is why many people emphasize just how important it is to go on a diet to lower cholesterol along with a regular exercise routine.

The Ground Rules Required To Lower Cholesterol.

When you start on your diet to lower cholesterol, you need to be aware of some food items that you need to eliminate from your regular meals. The three main items that you need to take out are salt, unnecessary carbohydrates, and fatty foods. There are several other food items to get rid of, but those three are the main ones you need to concentrate on when you are just starting out.

On the flip side, there are some items which you need to implement into your regular meals in order to have a successful diet to lower cholesterol. These foods are those high in fiber and complex carbohydrates which include wholegrain foods, beans, brown rice, fruits and vegetables. By having more of these good cholesterol foods in your regular diet, they will help your body get rid of the bad cholesterol.

To help your body have a continual stabilized balance, you will need to take more foods that are high in good cholesterol and cease from intake foods that are high in bad cholesterol. By doing so, you will be providing your body the energy it needs to expel the bad cholesterol from your body.

As with most diets, you will not see any instant results because the change from a high level of cholesterol to a low level of cholesterol will be very gradual. This diet will also be promoting a healthier lifestyle because you will be avoiding major health complications that can arise due to a high level of cholesterol. Just take into statement that you need get rid of fatty foods and salt and start intake more foods high in fiber.
